Cloud becomes Link

TL;DR: We’re renaming Home Assistant Cloud to Home Assistant Link on December 2nd 2026.

Hi everyone,

Big tech has ruined the cloud, and we’re removing it from our name. The term cloud is now synonymous with their walled gardens, data harvesting, and vendor lock-in. That’s the exact opposite of what we stand for.

Because our service is designed strictly to link your local setup to optional online extras, without sacrificing your privacy or local control, we’re updating the name to match what it actually does.

It’s for this exact reason we even took the cloud out of our logo. Also, we thought the logo and website could use a little refresh while we’re at it — hope it’s not too many changes at once 😁.

What you need to know

Zero disruption: It’s the same subscription under the hood, just a new name.
No action needed: The name update will roll out officially in the 2026.12 Home Assistant release on December 2nd 2026.
Same mission: Your subscription still directly funds the full-time development of Home Assistant.

In the end, our actions will always speak louder than our product names, but we just wanted to make it clearer what we’re about. We’d love to hear your thoughts on the new name, head over to the Home Assistant blog and join the conversation.

We now make the best repeaters

This week, on the Open Home Foundation’s Toolbox website, you’ll be able to flash a new experimental repeater firmware to your Connect ZBT-2 and Connect ZWA-2. Just a heads up that these haven’t been tested in large numbers and are still considered experimental, so there may still be issues. A few of the Nabu Casa team have been testing them in their homes, and the results are impressive.

One more step to ending e-waste

Today, we’re announcing the start of Nabu Casa’s first refurb program 🎉! We’re starting in the US market with our partner AmeriDroid to sell refurbished Home Assistant Green systems, but we intend to expand to more regions and products… just give us some time as we’re working to do this right… more on that below. The sustainability of the smart home is a big part of our mission, and reducing e-waste by finding new homes for working devices is a good step in the right direction.

Changes to Home Assistant Green pricing

In the next couple of days, you’ll likely see the price of Home Assistant Green increasing at local retailers. Like many organisations have been announcing recently, we’ve been hit by component cost increases.
